I’ve been invited by an Oakland elementary school to create a show aimed at educating children on disability awareness and inclusivity. As an educator, puppeteer, and storyteller, I am grateful for the opportunity to facilitate understanding and empathy for both physical and developmental disabilities among children and animals. Children with disabilities are significantly underrepresented in today’s media and entertainment, despite estimates indicating 1 in 7 children in California have special healthcare needs. There is a notable lack of education and funding for disability awareness within the school system. My goal is to bring attention to these important issues and uplift the diverse spectrum of children with disabilities.
Initially, I will perform the show live at the school and produce a professional video to reach a broader audience nationwide.
My goal is to raise $5,500 and begin fabrication by November 1st to support the creation, production, and performance of this show. With the necessary funding, I aim to complete the following phases by December 19th 2024.
**Phase 1:** Building puppets
**Phase 2:** Creating sets
**Phase 3:** Rehearsals
**Phase 4:** Performance
Your support will help bring this vital education to schools and communities both locally and nationally. You can make a difference by donating to this project!
Rewards for donors include:
- A live show for local donors (Date and location TBD)
- A Zoom show for National and international donors(Date and location TBD)
Thank you so much for your consideration and donation and for sharing with friends and family to help me spread the word! Please stay tuned to this fundraising page for live updates on the project.

All are invited to The Berkeley School Early Childhood Campus, Community Playdate & Open House, featuring a special puppet-filled playdate featuring a performance by a famous local puppeteer, Emily Butterfly. Emily Butterfly is an interstellar storyteller who lives to delight children with her magically unique form of puppetry, storytelling, and song.
Don’t miss your chance to interact with the puppets, explore the Certified Wildlife Habitat campus, and connect with the school’s Early Childhood community. Whether you’re a preschool-aged child or a soon-to-be preschooler (ages 2-5), or the grown-up in your life, The Berkeley School invites you to join a morning of play and discovery.
This is a recurring event that happens on the 3rd Friday of the month.
Playgroups are open to parents and caregivers with children under 5-years old. Drop-ins are welcomed!
Playgroups are a parent-child program to foster bonding, social skills and early learning preschool experiences. Multicultural and Developmental playgroups are held on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 9:30AM-12:00PM Fridays: 9:30AM - 11:00AM

DEVELOPMENTAL PLAYGROUPS:
The developmental playgroup will serve children who have mild to moderate needs or demonstrate developmental concerns and require more individualized attention and smaller classroom-size to accommodate their needs. Based on best practice research, the model is designed to facilitate early family engagement in the lives of these children, to help families better understand their child's developmental and social emotional challenges and to provide them with tools to address those needs. Weekly playgroups will be structured to support parent-child attachment, improve a child's developmental skills and decrease parental isolation and stress.
I’ll be fluttering to the share my puppetry magic for young children and their elders!

**Celebrate community health and wellness & the Healing Power of HipHop at the Legendary Children’s Fairyland with a Back to School Event for Oakland Unified School District and the 24-25 School Year!**
HipHop Fairyland Returns to Oakland: Celebrating the Healing Power of HipHop and Health
Oakland, CA - July 1, 2024 - HipHop Fairyland, the highly anticipated second iteration of Oakland’s annual celebration of the Healing Power of HipHop, Health, and Community, is set to take place on August 17, 2024. This unique event is a collaborative effort between Children’s Fairyland, The City of Oakland, and Hip Hop Scholastics, aimed at engaging diverse families from Oakland through a vibrant Hip Hop Health Fair.
This year’s HipHop Fairyland will build upon the success of last year, where we served 1,025 people, with a new target of reaching 2,500 Oakland children and families. The event will feature a wide array of activities designed to promote dental and mental health, school readiness, and overall wellness.
Event Highlights:
Healthcare Services: Community partners, including The Alameda County Public Health Department, Baywell Health, and Jav the Dentist will provide: vaccinations, blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, dental screenings, dental kits, mental health services, and health kits to attendees to make sure you have everything you need to enroll in school!
Back 2 School: In partnership with Oakland Unified School District this is a back-to-school event, specifically targeting elementary schools and child development centers with the lowest school readiness indicators in Oakland to make sure kids and families have everything they need to enroll and regularly attend school!
Artistic and Therapeutic Workshops: Five teaching artists and performers will engage children in HipHop art forms such as beat making, aerosol art, rhyming, and break dancing. These workshops are designed not only as educational experiences but also as therapeutic activities to help mitigate the effects of trauma and PTSD.
Interactive Workshops & Performances:
Today's Future Sound will conduct Therapeutic Beat Making Workshops.
Aerosoul Art will teach HipHop’s visual art forms, leveraging research into art therapy.
The Peoples Conservatory will offer HipHop dance & Rhyming workshops, focusing on stress and anxiety reduction.
Ace Kids Golf will introduce children to golf in the meadow.
HipHop Scholastics will provide educational HipHop Curriculum
Activities and Experiences:
Emily Butterfly will bring storytelling theater to life with a focus on oral health
Book Giveaway: We will distribute over 500 free copies of the Dentist & the Fire Breathing Dragon, a children’s book focused on oral health.
Community Recognition: The event will feature city proclamations honoring local educational leaders and students for their contributions.
Metrics from last year indicate that partnerships between kid-focused locations, local governments, and artists significantly enhance family engagement, bringing joy, healing, and community involvement. We are grateful to our volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners who make this event possible.
Join us on August 17, 2024, at Children’s Fairyland for a day filled with fun, learning, and healing. Together, we can celebrate the transformative power of HipHop and promote a healthier, happier Oakland community.
